Not this year, I received amongst other things a wonderful book from my daughter all about wood carving, something that interests me a lot and I've had a few goes at it to date, I'm a very practical person and quite arty at times so I find it a natural thing to do and I'm not bad at it either, I will be writing a post all about my attempts at this little hobby in the near future.
My wife bought me a tent, I've actually got a tent that I have had for a few years that I've used a few times, it was a very cheap one that has no inner, even if it doesn't rain outside you always wake up wet because of the amount of condensation that builds up on the inside and then drips all over you.
Time for a new one, but I had to do a lot of research as I had a few conditions that had to be filled;
- Cost no more than £150.00
- Light weight enough to be called a backpacking tent (no more that 3KG ish)
- Large enough porch to cook in if weather turns nasty
- Large enough to accommodate me and my wife and some kit comfortably
- Good quality
With all of the conditions in mind it was pointing me towards a Vango tent, but which one so many models all of which have good and bad points. In the end I opted for the Vango Tempest 300 2014 model, its a 3 berth tunnel type tent with a 5000 hydro static head and tension system for rigidity, large porch area and cost £140.00.
I've had it up in the garden for a few nights and it has rained cats and dogs and been quite windy at times, stood up to this perfectly, I'm going away by myself for a couple of nights very soon to give it a good try out so stay tuned for a complete review.
